ode to keith

i like keith hernandez, although i don't like the mets...he makes watching that low-rent team bearable...he's funny...like a huggable bear...and cantankerous...like me...i like gary carter as well...i saw him the other day, looking like a big fat blob, far from the days of '86...it made me chuckle a little...although i am a yankee fan, much like someone born into catholicism is a catholic, the mets give me a laugh...and thank god for keith, because without his biting commentary, there would be no reason to watch that team from queens...

As a born New York-hater, I too have always found the Mets to be the bumbling brother of the Yankees. It takes more effort to hate them, as their nature leans to the comical. Hernandez, has always struck me as a put upon ring leader stuck in a two-bit circus for which he knows he is too good. He is lovable for his efforts to raise the bar and cranky because it never works for long. Gary Carter is the lead clown. Talented, no doubt, and a reason to watch when he was on his game. But, is there anything sadder than a retired clown?
